Logan, the Organization of Union Veterans leader, in 1868. The day was initially organized to honor the brave military service members who died during the Civil War. Over time, Memorial Day has evolved into a time of remembrance for each person that has served our country, with traditions like the Memorial Day Parade in Washington DC and the laying of the wreaths in Arlington National Cemetery. It is an honorable day that allows us to reflect on the sacrifices made by servicemen and women from the Civil War to World War II and beyond.
The Memorial Day weekend also marks the unofficial start of summer, with family and friends gathering for barbecues, picnics, and other festivities to honor the memory of those fallen soldiers. So, as we raise our American flags and come together, let’s take a moment to honor and remember the people who served our great nation.
